In a plot twist straight out of a bad teen drama, five German teenagers, aged 14 to 18, have been arrested for allegedly forming a neo-Nazi group called the “Last Wave of Defense.” Their mission? To “protect” Germany by targeting asylum seekers and political opponents. Because nothing says patriotism like arson and attempted murder.

The Arrests

Early morning raids across Germany led to the arrest of these five minors. Four are suspected of being members of a domestic terrorist organization, while the fifth is accused of supporting the group. Two face additional charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson. Authorities also searched 13 properties as part of the investigation.

The Crimes

The group’s alleged activities include setting fire to a cultural center in Altdöbern and attempting to ignite an asylum-seeker home in Schmölln using fireworks. They also defaced buildings with slogans like “Foreigners out” and swastikas. Because when you’re trying to make a point, vandalism is the way to go, right?

The Bigger Picture

These arrests come amid a rise in far-right violence in Germany, with a 17% increase in such crimes last year. The “Last Wave of Defense” is part of a disturbing trend of youth radicalization, often fueled by online propaganda and social media platforms like Instagram and Telegram.

The Reaction

German Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig expressed shock at the young ages of the suspects, stating, “This is an alarm signal and it shows that right-wing extremist terrorism knows no age.” Authorities are now investigating three other individuals aged 18 to 21 who are already in custody.

The Takeaway

While it’s tempting to dismiss these teens as misguided youth, their actions have serious implications. It’s a stark reminder that hate can take root at any age, and vigilance is necessary to prevent such ideologies from spreading.

Reaction: Man, these kids out here trying to be the ‘Last Wave of Defense’ when they can’t even defend their own report cards.”
